I have had a couple people ask how many teddy bears and stuffed animals that they think we collected. It is hard to say. In April we handed out around 449. We have a school in vermont sending us around 600-700. Another person sending 100 as well another gal sending 400. So in the end we will have over 1,600 I believe if I did my math correctly.
The positive nature on the relationship between people and their teddy bears has led researchers within robotics at MIT to develop The Huggable. This can be described as responsive robotic companion by using sensitive fur skin for therapeutic touch to assist nurture the growing population of institutionalized elderly people worldwide who suffer from loneliness and not enough affection.
